The visitors to the Belgrade Fairground had an opportunity to step into the future and assure themselves of the revolutionary possibilities of 5G technology that brings mobile Cloud robotics, Internet of Knowledge and 5G speeds. The new technology was presented in cooperation with the Ericsson company.

The ceremony at which the 5G network was presented was attended by Telekom Srbija CEO Predrag Ćulibrk and Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications Rasim Ljajić, whereas the characteristics of the new technology were presented by Telekom Srbija Chief Technical Officer Filip Banković and General Manager of Ericsson for Serbia and Montenegro Antonio Passarella.

Telekom Srbija CEO Predrag Ćulibrk said that mts was successfully keeping pace with the speedy technological development. “I am glad that we, as a company, earned the attribute of an originator by being the first to bring the story of the new technology which is certain to contribute to progress in communications, particularly in terms of bitrates. I believe that in just a few years, when we are to be the first in Serbia commercially to deploy 5G, we will all remember this day as the moment when we were able to witness to the possibilities offered by this technology. Telekom Srbija remains committed to the promotion of its services through significant investments into new technologies, at the same time operating in line with the global trends”, Ćulibrk said.

Speaking on the occasion of the presentation of the new technology, Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications Rasim Ljajić said that the distant future became a reality, which will largely make lives easier for the common people. “Apart from that, the new technology will create the opportunities for the development of economic activities and will bring multiple benefits to the current industries. It is anticipated that 5G-driven automation will lead to the creation of two million new jobs in Europe, that is, 22 million in the world, whereby some 113 billion euros worth of revenues will be generated”, Ljajić said. The minister announced that 5G was planned to be introduced in Serbia until 2020 and said that the state conducted large-scale preparations for this technological revolution.

Pointing to the possibilities offered by the new network, General Manager of Ericsson for Serbia and Montenegro Antonio Passarella said that the presentation held that day, the first in Serbia, provided a look into the future as to how the 5G network will make it possible for the people, industries and devices to connect with no exceptions. “Our business partnership with mts aims to ensure that the market in Serbia may capitalize on the advantages of the next technological wave, 5G and Internet of Things (IoT) at the right time and in the right manner”, Antonio Passarella said.

Owing to mts, only a month and a half after the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the fifth generation of mobile networks was presented in Serbia, too. This state-of-the-art technology will bring many benefits to the users and will significantly change different industries and society as a whole. The 5G network will provide for a stable bitrate of over 20Gbps together with the transmission of very high-resolution video content (4K). Thus, even in rural environments, the users will be able to use the same capacities as are currently provided exclusively by the optical infrastructure in towns and cities.
