Telekom Srbija sees ICT, IT and the exclusive content for multimedia platforms as important innovation opportunities, although the telecommunications infrastructure is still the main pillar of the company’s operations, the company’s CEO Predrag Ćulibrk said at the Digital 2018 conference dedicated to trends in telecommunications and media.

As a participant in the traditional CEO panel discussion of telecom leaders in the region, Ćulibrk said that in 2017 Telekom Srbija had laid 24,000 kilometers of optical cables in an effort to approach the customer with the latest technical solutions, and that the number of 4G base stations had almost doubled in the previous year.

Telekom Srbija’s CEO also said that over the last few years the company had significantly reduced its indebtedness and added that conditions had been created for a new investment cycle, after earlier investments and acquisitions in the region.

“We are thinking about the acquisition of operators in Serbia and Republika Srpska where we are already present with multimedia services, with an idea to improve our market position in the domain of multimedia. This will be supported by our investments in content”, said Ćulibrk adding that Telekom Srbija i.e. the Arena Sport sports channel had secured the rights to broadcast the Champions League football matches and the Italian league matches in the following three years.

Ćulibrk stated that Telekom Srbija had lately focused on the spheres of ICT and IT, adding that in these segments the company had actually started from scratch and that at present 1% of the revenues came from these segments of the market which is otherwise dominated by companies that have been present in this sphere for decades.

“We see our entry on the ICT market primarily through different forms of partnership, through cooperation with large companies in this sphere, such as VMware, Microsoft, SAP and others. We also see it through connectivity due to all the services that we have in this segment, and through the experience that Telekom Srbija possesses as a company which employs over 1,000 engineers who develop and maintain a very complex system, probably the most complex in the region”, said Ćulibrk.

The two-day conference held in Belgrade was opened by the Serbian Minister of Culture and Information, Vladan Vukosavljević, the British Ambassador to Serbia, Denis Keefe, and the State Secretary in the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications, Tatjana Matić.
